!Get Out of Bed
by Diane Z. Shore

!Get out of bed, you silly fool"
.Get up right now, it’s time for school
,If you don’t dress without a fuss
I’ll throw you naked on the bus!

Oh, Mom, don’t make me go today
I’m feeling worse than yesterday
You don’t know what I’m going through
I’ve got a strange, rare case of flu

My body aches, my throat is sore"
I’m sure I’m knocking on death’s door
You can’t send me to school—achoo_!
Cause everyone could get it, too'

Besides, the kids despise me there
They always tease and always stare
And all the teachers know my name
When something’s wrong, it’s me they blame

You faked a headache yesterday
Don’t pull that stuff on me today
Stop acting like a silly fool—
The principal cannot skip school

Buttercups and Daisies
by Mary Howitt

Buttercups and daisies-
Oh the pretty flowers,
Coming ere the springtime,
To tell of sunny hours.
While the trees are leafless,
While the fields are bare,
Buttercups and daisies
Spring up here and there.

Ere the snowdrop peepeth,
Ere the croscus bold,
Ere the early primrose
Opes its paly gold.
Somewhere on a sunny bank
Buttercups are bright;
Somewhere 'mong the frozen grass
Peeps the daisy white.

Little hardy flowers
Like to children poor,
Playing in their sturdy health
By their mother's door:
Purple with the north wind,
Yet alert and bold;
Fearing not and caring not,
Though they be a-cold.

What to them is weather!
What are stormy showers!
Buttercups and daisies
Are these human flowers!
He who gave them hardship
And a life of care,
Gave them likewise hardy strength,
And patient hearts, to bear.

Welcome yellow buttercups,
Welcome daisies white,
Ye are in my spirit
Visioned, a delight!
Coming ere the springtime
Of sunny hours to tell-
Speaking to our hearts of Him
Who doeth all things well.

All Things Bright and Beautiful
by Cecil Frances Alexander

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings.
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brightens up the sky;

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden.
He made them every one.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

My Chicken's On the Internet
Kenn Nesbitt

.My chicken's on the Internet
She surfs the web all day
I've tried to stop her browsing
.but, so far, there's just no way

She jumps up on the mouse
and then she flaps around like mad
to click on every hyperlink
and every pop-up ad

She plays all sorts of chicken games
She messages her folks
She watches chicken videos
and forwards chicken jokes

She writes a blog for chickens
and she uploads chicken pics
She visits chicken chat rooms
where she clucks about her chicks

I wouldn't mind so much
except my keyboard's now a wreck
She hasn't learned to type yet
she can only hunt and peck

North and South, East and West

Words and Music By: Anna M. Pratt
Adapted By: Terry Kluytmans

Ev'ry day the shining sun
Rising in the EAST
Brings its light to land and sea
Brings its light to you and me
Wakens bird and beast
Right hand out, now let it stay
Pointing EAST, this is the way
Right hand out, now let it stay
Pointing EAST, this is the way

Ev'ry night the setting sun
Sinking in the WEST
Takes its light from land and sea
Takes it, too, from you and me
Brings the time for rest
Left hand out, now let it stay
Pointing WEST, this is the way
Left hand out, now let it stay
Pointing WEST, this is the way

Pointing EAST and pointing WEST
Straight ahead we'll find
NORTH before us as we stand
EAST and WEST on either hand
And the SOUTH behind
Pointing EAST and WEST we'll find
NORTH in front, and SOUTH behind
Pointing EAST and WEST we'll find
NORTH in front, and SOUTH behind

At The Zoo

William Makepeace Thackeray

First I saw the white bear

then I saw the black

Then I saw the camel

with a hump upon his back

Then I saw the grey wolf

with mutton in his maw

Then I saw the wombat waddle in the straw

Then I saw the elephant a-waving of his trunk

Then I saw the monkeys-mercy

how unpleasantly they-smelt

dear moon's tear I hope we shall always be on the same track

have a nice day and may god bless you and your family

Bring Your Own Lunch
by Bruce Lansky

Don’t eat school lunches—
not even a lick.
They might make you nauseous.
They might make you sick.

Just take a small bite and
you’ll start to feel ill.
If the veggies don’t get you,
the meatloaf sure will.

Food Fight
by Kenn Nesbitt

We’d never seen the teachers
in a state of such distress
The principal was yelling
that the lunchroom was a mess

It started off so innocent
when someone threw a bun
but all the other kids decided
they should join the fun

It instantly turned into
an enormous lunchroom feud
as students started hurling
all their halfway-eaten food

A glob went whizzing through the air
impacting on the wall
Another chunk went sailing out
the doorway to the hall

The food was splattered everywhere
the ceilings, walls, and doors
A sloppy, gloppy mess was on
the tables and the floors

And so our good custodian
ran out to grab his mop
It took him half the afternoon
to clean up all the slop

The teachers even used some words
we’re not supposed to mention
And that’s how all the kids and teachers
wound up in detention

Genie, Please Hurry
Jeff Mondak

Genie, oh, Genie please grant me this wish
To fly like an eagle, to swim like a fish
To run like a cheetah, to dart like a snake
To climb up a mountain or dive in a lake

Genie, she sees me, there’s no time to spare
She’s walking right toward me, she’s tossing her hair
Genie, please hurry and zap me to France
Before Callie Johnson can ask me to dance

Favourite Things
Lauren, by Barry Turrell

You're a new daisy
that's come up at night
your skin is
a silk cover rubbed
against my hand

You're a moon
drifting through frozen air
the lady who helps me
when I'm hurt. You are
cream just whipped

You're a red lipped flower
the bit of butter
melting on my potato
you're the hot water in my
bath, rushing around me

You are god talking
quietly to horses
a rainbow in the sk
You're the moment
I get my sums righ

A Light Exists in Spring

~ by Emily Dickinson

A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period --
When March is scarcely here

A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.

It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.

Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay --

A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.

Sounds Like It To Me
1998, Arden Davidson

Tick Tock. Tick Tock
Funny how it rhymes with clock

Rub-a-dub, Rub-a-dub, Rub-a-dub, dub
Funny how it rhymes with tub

Plip, plop. Down the drain
Funny how it rhymes with rain

Splish, splash. Slip, slop
Funny how it rhymes with mop

Yummy, yummy. Slurp, slurp, slurp
Funny how it rhymes with burp

If words sound just like what they do
what words, ya think, would rhyme with you
???

My Birthday's on St. Patrick's Day
--Kenn Nesbitt

My birthday's on St. Patrick's day.
I wore no green at all,
and got a pinch from every kid
who passed me in the hall.
You get "a pinch to grow an inch"
whenever birthdays fall.
I guess they must have worked
because I'm thirty-nine feet tall.

Poem About The Color RED

Red is the wrapping paper adorning presents from Santa

Red is fresh picked sun sweetened raspberries

Red is roses in full bloom drifting on a summer breeze

Red is slick and wet like paint

Red is the boom of fireworks on the Fourth of July

Tree Huggers

Children of the fragile forest gather around
Where bird song seems to be the loudest sound
A place called Summer, green as you could please
A place where we all proudly hug the trees

Hug trees for the walnuts and sweet apples
For the shade above small country chapels
For giving squirrel and crow a place to live
For the priceless gift of oxygen they give

Follow your feet across a woodland floor
Beneath the tall and ancient sycamore
Under redwood, under tall blue pine
Come with me and form an endless line

Join the boy whose name is simply ME
Take your turn and hug a mighty tree
A wish we cast upon an August breeze
A dream to cross the seven sacred seas

Release it now, just like a big balloon
A prayer to reach the mountains of the moon
To citizens of Earth alas we say
Go find yourself a tree to hug today

And if a grownup says Don’t be a fool
Or Is that what they’re teaching you in school
Just find this poem and read this simple rhyme
It’s cool to HUG a TREE from time to time

Children this is how the world can be
Making Earth plan A and not plan B
Wear Change! Share Change! Sing Change! Bring Change
And start by hugging a tree

I Have to Write a Poem
--Kenn Nesbitt

I have to write a poem
but I really don't know how.
So maybe I'll just make a rhyme
with something dumb, like "cow."

Okay, I'll write about a cow,
but that's so commonplace.
I think I'll have to make her be...
a cow from outer space!

My cow will need a helmet
and a space suit and a ship.
Of course, she'll keep a blaster
in the holster on her hip.

She'll hurtle through the galaxy
on meteoric flights
to battle monkey aliens
in huge karate fights.

She'll duel with laser sabers
while avoiding lava spray
to vanquish evil emperors
and always save the day.

I hope the teacher likes my tale,
"Amazing Astro Cow."
Yes, that's the poem I will write
as soon as I learn how

My Dog Chewed Up My Homework

by Bruce Lansky

I’m glad to say my homework’s done.
I finished it last night.
I’ve got it right here in this box.
It’s not a pretty sight.

My dog chewed up my homework.
He slobbered on it, too.
So now my homework’s ripped to shreds
and full of slimy goo.

It isn’t much to look at,
but I brought it anyway.
I’m going to dump it on your desk
if I don’t get an A.

My Bed is Like a Sailing Ship

My bed is like a sailing ship
when I’m tucked in, I take a trip
I leave behind my busy day
and sail to places far away

I sail past beaches, gleaming white
with palm trees swaying in the night
I watch the waves break on the shore
and then I see my bedroom floor

I blink my eyes, I scratch my head
my ship is home, I’m back in bed
My ships goes sailing every night
and sails home in the morning light

Our School Family

Our family comes
From many towns
Our hair is straight
Our hair is brown
Our hair is curled
Our eyes are blue
Our skins are different
Colors, too

We’re girls and boys
We’re big and small
We’re young and old
We’re short and tall
We’re everything
That we can be
And still we are
A family

We laugh and cry
We work and play
We help each other
Every day.
The world’s a lovely
Place to be
Because we are
A family

I'm Late For School

I got up late for school today
And nearly missed the bus
I hurried down the stairs
Wolfed my toast, and caused a fuss

I quickly threw books in my bag
My pens, my lunch and shorts
Grabbed my coat from out the cupboard
Took my bat and ball for sports

I slid across the kitchen floor
And hopped around the cat
Then expertly rolled over
Jumped back up and grabbed my hat

I belted out of our front door
Spun round and swung it shut
Saw the bus was waiting for me
I felt I had time to strut

I climbed aboard and then froze still
And knew that things weren't right
My friends fell down in fits of fun
And pointed with delight

My face went red, I couldn't breathe
For in my haste I knew
I'd forgotten to wear trousers
Jumper, shirt, my socks and shoes
